I can't believe that it is already November!  The leaves have turned to beautiful hues of red and orange, we have seen our first hint of snow, and it is getting dark before our evening classes have finished.  Fall at Attitudes means that we are busy refining technique  learning new terminology, training hard in every class and working on choreography for our upcoming holiday season. We invite you to come in and try a new and fun way to exercise!   We have a class perfect for every age and interest.

If you need assistance, please feel free to call or stop by our office.

STUDIO GUIDELINES

As we officially begin our new dance year, it is important that you and your dancer have an opportunity to organize and plan for the busy months ahead. Please take a moment to read our studio guidelines and should you have any questions, you may contact our office or ask one of your teachers.

Ø  Students should arrive 15 minutes prior to class time to dress and prepare for class.

Ø  Students arriving after classes have started should not enter the classroom. Students arriving after their class has started will not be allowed to participate in class.

Ø  Students must be dressed in their uniform for all classes.  For ballet, girls must have their hair neatly secured in a bun, while jazz and tap students must have their hair neatly pulled away from their faces.  Students in the green/burgundy divisions who attend classes more than three days per week may wear non-uniform dance attire on Mondays or Tuesdays any   may wear alternate leotards in the same color.

Ø  Students should eat prior to arriving to the studio; however, students attending more than three hours of classes a day may bring a snack to be eaten between classes.  All snacks must be eaten outside on the brown benches.  No food is to be eaten inside the studio. There is no gum or soda in the studio.  Water bottles are encouraged in the classroom.

Ø  Do not enter a classroom while classes are in session. You may enter when the previous class has been dismissed.  Do not stand in the hallway, as this is an emergency exit for our dancers. Do not interrupt a class to speak with a teacher.  If you must speak with a teacher, please schedule a time when they are not teaching.

Ø  Pointe shoes can only be worn if you have arrived 15 minutes prior to your class to stretch your feet. Students who have not worn their pointe shoes in class will not perform in their pointe shoes.  Students must attend a minimum of two classes per week to be accepted into the pointe program.

Ø  Please keep your belongings in your dance bags.  Your dance bags should be placed under benches or against the walls.  There should be no dance bags in the middle of the floor.

Ø  Do not wear perfume or cologne to class.

Ø  Please turn off your cell phones before class begins.  There are no cell phones allowed in the classroom. If you need to use Attitude’s phone, please limit your call to 2 minutes.

Ø  Students are not allowed in 1502 unless you are there for business reasons.  Students are not allowed in the costume room for any reason.

Please be quiet while classes are in session.  We ask that siblings play quietly, read a book, or color while students are in class.

Waiting to exhale...10 ways to grow closer to your kids.

I found this in a magazine and thought how helpful it would have been when raising my own children.

1.       Regularly schedule quality time, including frequent sit-down meals.  Make a point of going places together, even just for a walk.

2.       If you show respect, you’ll get respect.

3.       Don’t jump to conclusions.  Give your son or daughter the benefit of the doubt so he/she won’t be afraid to talk.  Ask yourself, How did I act when I was his/her age?  Look for the story behind the story.

4.       Learn to slow down and listen to what she is saying.  Don’t interrupt when your child is speaking.

5.       Avoid raising your voice when you talk.  Make eye contact.  Have conversations, not arguments.

6.       Do something nice for your child for no reason. Offer to straighten up his/her room when he/she’s having a crazy-busy week.  Make his/her favorite dessert.

7.       Show lots of warmth and affection.  The more you touch, hug and kiss, the easier it becomes for both of you to express your feelings.

8.       Praise more and criticize less.

9.       Nurture your child’s independence and decision-making skills by encouraging him/her to try new things.  Solicit her opinion on ordinary family matters.  Let him/her know that what he/she thinks and feels is important to you.

10.   Ask what he/she needs from you and be open to responding positively if his/her request is reasonable.
